Early Experiences with the EGrid Testbed

چکیده
The Testbed and Applications working group of the European Grid Forum (EGrid) is actively building and experimenting with a grid infrastructure connecting several research-based supercomputing sites located in Europe. This paper reports on our first feasibility study: running a self-migrating version of the Cactus simulation code across the European grid testbed, including “live” remote data visualization and steering from different demonstration booths at Supercomputing 2000, in Dallas, TX. We report on the problems that had to be resolved for this endeavour and identify open research challenges for building productiongrade grid environments.

Storm, an Srm Implementation for Lhc Analysis Farms
In production grids, high performance disk storage solutions using parallel file systems are becoming increasingly important to provide reliability and high speed I/O operations needed by HEP analysis farms. Today, Storage Area Network solutions are commonly deployed at LHC center and and parallel file systems such as GPFS and Lustre allow for reliable, high-speed native POSIX I/O operations in...
متن کاملComparison of two U.S. power-plant carbon dioxide emissions data sets.
Estimates of fossil-fuel CO2 emissions are needed to address a variety of climate-change mitigation concerns over a broad range of spatial and temporal scales. We compared two data sets that report power-plant CO2 emissions in the conterminous U.S. for 2004, the most recent year reported in both data sets. The data sets were obtained from the Department of Energy's Energy Information Administra...
متن کاملExperiences Designing and Building a Multi-Hop Wireless Ad Hoc Network Testbed
In this paper, we describe our experiences building a multi-hop wireless ad hoc network of 8 nodes driving around a 700 m by 300 m site. Each node runs the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol and interfaces seamlessly with existing Internet infrastructure and the Mobile IP protocol. The issues discussed in this paper range from logistical and management issues, to protocol design and performa...

The Globus project is a multi-institutional research effort that seeks to enable the construction of computational grids providing pervasive, dependable, and consistent access to high-performance computational resources, despite geographical distribution of both resources and users. Computational grid technology is being viewed as a critical element of future highperformance computing environme...
متن کاملLessons Learned from the Real-world Deployment of a Connected Vehicle Testbed
The connected vehicle (CV) system promises unprecedented safety, mobility, environmental, economic and social benefits, which can be unlocked using the enormous amount of data shared between vehicles and infrastructure (e.g., traffic signals, centers). Real-world CV deployments including pilot deployments help solve technical issues and observe potential benefits, both of which support the broa...
